Think of the game's underlying mantra of the genere and, in turn, it's implied pathos of pity directed at humanity itself it evokes wisdom to those who are listening, regardless.

They violently compete for what's out there, and they're 'in it to win it.' And they do so via "any means necessary" as the in-game Brotherhood quartermaster would reply, I imagine. They appear to divide themselves from those around them. Their foremost concern is narrow-minded self-interest. Seems to me they're not necessarily the folks who are going to pick up society by raising the tide, so to speak. Although perhaps they are - to someone who sees no other means to a much needed recourse.īut, to the Brotherhood, I wouldn't quite expect them to overlook the even the slightest odds that the synths are a threat to humanity, or merely just the Brotherhoods' dominance, for that matter.Īnd, honestly, they represent in my mind, the spirit of human militarism that got itself into the apocalypse to begin with.

Right out the gate, these odds themselves aren't very reassuring. Without an educated guess, perhaps a layperson, as it were, would have to say "50-50." Sounds llike a very strong "unknown known." Thats why I think, BOS are just kind of facists, try to create an idealistic world without anything else then the human race. They even show REM behaviour in sleep ( a discussion between two scientists in the construction facility) And even if Father says that their thought of beeing a life form is nonsense, he gives you a synth Shaun (which deserves more than the other synths?) Even if it might rises discussion about artifical life, For me it is obvious that in the Fallout series, artifical Life (Inteligence), seem to be possible, even offcourse, in real life, I have my doubts about this. They seem to not know that they are synths, like danse who was surprised that he is one. The gen 3 synth on the other hand seem to be exactly construced like a human ( if you look at the synth construction facility). The hardware of a robot(or computer) "seem" not suffiecient for Inteligent behaviour. If anybody knows, the chinese room of the philopher Searle, You get an idea, why (strong) artifical Inteligence is not possible. Nearly everyone in the story, do not accept the Synth as a artifical life form, but as a thread or in case of the institute, as scientific tool of controlling and experimenting. The Idea of Artifical life is popular, and because it is highly related to my study program, i was really happy to see them in the game. People in the institute made their concerns about the synths as well as the most companions are synths. Honestly, it's probably all deeper than Bethesda thought about the story but people backing the BoS because "Synths might run amuck" are sort of just playing from one side and not seeing the other. Synths could very well be what the post-war Fallout world needs to move along and bring humanity back from the brink OR if humanity dies out (which seems likely considering the events of these games) Synths are the most human-like thing that could survive and at least maybe keep humanity alive in some form. I'm just saying, it irks me that the game felt so heavy on the side of "OH GOD THEY COULD KILL US ALL!". While we may not all get along with our parents not all children grow up to kill their parents.

The way i see it, we'd probably be something like parents to them. I mean, it's just as likely that they'd be willing to help as they would be to destroy. Machines that could outthink us and perform many tasks we're unable to, COULD lead to vast leaps in fields such as science/medicine. We could just as well create the best friend humanity could ever hope to have short of super nice aliens. Why does it have to be doomsday if we create what we might call "life"? I'd say it's more of a 50/50 toss up. We have alien movies that arn't all Alien movies why not super smart AI that aren't Teminators (or the matrix if you'd like). There is no reason to believe that if humans made some sort of machine that could think for itself that it would turn on us and wipe us out. It's all fine and stuff for Sci-Fi to cast some sort of self-aware/sentient AI as "OMG we're all going to die" plot device but I take issue with the people that really just think that is the only outcome. There is NOTHING to support their claims and this is what brings me to hate this game. Now, that'd be fine if they knew that was the outcome but they don't. The whole reason (I think?) that the BoS hates the Institute is because Synths could become some sort of self-aware doomsday army.
